The OCGS was organized in the autumn of 1975 as the result of strong interest evident during a series of seminars on genealogy presented early in the year by the Ontario County Historical Society and Museum "OCHS".
The purpose of the OCGS is to provide educational programs, encourage the exchange of genealogical information, and provide an opportunity for fellowship around this shared interest.
The OCGS in cooperation with the OCHS seeks to assist those conducting research on Ontario County families. To that end, the OCGS has published the "Directory of Resources in Ontario County", as a basic guide to aid researchers.
